A high-order model for long waves: derivation, structure, numerics

Christos presented a recently derived model for long water waves based on Luke’s variational principle.

The model is constructed using an ansatz inspired by the asymptotic solution of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann problem in the Hamiltonian formulation of free-surface potential flow. It possesses a canonical Hamiltonian structure and, importantly, involves at most second-order derivatives while retaining a high-order asymptotic accuracy with respect to the full water-wave problem.

Christos further discussed its relation to classical and recent asymptotic models and illustrate its performance with numerical results.
